Social Emotional Learning Groups

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) groups are small, supportive group sessions designed to help children and adolescents develop the skills they need to understand and manage emotions, build positive relationships, make responsible decisions, and handle challenging situations effectively. These groups provide a structured environment where participants can practice social skills, build self-awareness, and develop empathy—all essential for success both in and out of the classroom.

In SEL groups, students engage in age-appropriate activities, discussions, and role-playing exercises that focus on five core competencies:

  1. Self-Awareness – Recognizing emotions, thoughts, and values

  2. Self-Management – Regulating emotions and behaviors to achieve goals

  3. Social Awareness – Showing empathy and understanding diverse perspectives

  4. Relationship Skills – Communicating clearly and resolving conflicts

  5. Responsible Decision-Making – Making ethical and constructive choices
